Privacy Policy — Copy Clean

1) Overview

“Copy Clean” is a Chrome extension that helps you copy selected text as clean, plain text. It can remove extra spaces, fix broken line wraps, normalize punctuation, and optionally format the result as a Markdown quote or extract a link list from the selected content. This Privacy Policy explains what information the extension processes and how it is handled.

2) Data the extension processes

The extension processes only what is needed to perform the copy-clean action:

• Selected website content: the text you highlight on a web page.
• Selected links (optional): if you use “Link list” mode, the extension may read link titles and URLs inside your selected content.
• Local preferences: your chosen mode and cleaning options (saved locally).

Copy Clean processes this information only when you click the extension.

3) Where your data is stored

The extension stores only your settings locally on your device using chrome.storage.local. The extension does not store your selected text or extracted links by default.

4) Data sharing

Copy Clean does not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties. It does not send your selected text, links, or clipboard content to any server. The extension does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

5) What the extension does not collect

The extension is not designed to collect:

• Passwords or authentication credentials
• Payment or financial information
• Health information
• Personal communications (e.g., email or chat messages)
• Precise location data

6) Permissions used

The extension requests certain Chrome permissions to function:

• Storage (to save your preferences locally)
• activeTab (to access the active tab only when you click the extension)
• scripting (to read the selected text/HTML only on your request)
• clipboardWrite (to copy the cleaned output to your clipboard)

Copy Clean does not request host permissions and does not run automatically across websites in the background.

7) Your controls

You can:

• Turn cleaning options on/off at any time
• Clear the extension’s saved settings by removing extension data (Chrome → Extensions → Copy Clean → Site access / Storage) or uninstalling the extension

8) Security

The extension runs locally in your browser profile. Protecting access to your device and browser profile helps protect your settings. Avoid copying sensitive information if you are using a shared computer.

9) Changes to this policy

If the extension’s data practices change, this Privacy Policy will be updated and the “Effective date” will be revised.

Note: If you host this Privacy Policy on GitHub Pages or another website, that hosting provider may log standard server data (such as visitors’ IP addresses) for security and operational purposes.
